Sadio Mane and Gini Wijnaldum calmed Liverpool’s nerves with a pair of first half strikes to give the Reds a foot and a half in the Champions League final.
Mane latched onto a Roberto Firmino through ball to smash under keeper Alisson in just the ninth minute – to give Roma a four goal up hill climb to go through.
But just six minutes later, Virgil van Dijk mopped up a low cross but only managed to punt straight into James Milner’s face before the ball dropped over the line for a comical own goal.
Dutchman Wijnaldum reestablished Jurgen Klopp’s side four goal tie advantage when he flicked on a clever header.
Liverpool are in Rome, looking to book their place in a first Champions League final in 11 years, with Real Madrid waiting in the final.
